I’m not showing off but I have a lot of awesome friends who do awesome things. One of my favourite friends is a circus performer. She lives in a camper van half the year, journeys to festivals all over the world, rocks a certain look and is partial to the odd bizarre neon hair colour. Alongside her alternative nomadic journeys and performances she also runs an extremely successful online business partnered with two people who live in different parts of the world with the online business funding the travel and the travel inspiring the business.

Now many would argue that she is living an alternative lifestyle, opting out of society and the everyday things that the average joe does on a day to day basis. Also many would say that as a business model, how can this be a sustainable working plan or existence?  Surely there must be something stopping us all from running away to the circus? Well get your clown costume ready, because there isn’t anything stopping any of us travelling the world becoming a lion tamer or trapeze artist…the answer to this lies in the Cloud.

Thanks to cloud computing, careers as we once knew no longer have to fit into the rigid structures and restrictions that they once did. Using hosted exchange for your company email means that you don’t need to have a server tucked away in your office (whatever form that office may take, whether it be a home office or a big top). By migrating your email networks to hosted exchange you have more benefits than you would have done previously. Your email will sync to multi-devices, multiple email addresses are available for the different people and different strands of your work. Access to email is shared across any location. So if your online business has international employees, you can still share the same networks and lines of communication, instantly updating and maintaining work flow across time zones.

Another fantastic thing about cloud computing is the collaboration between people. No matter where you are in the world you can share and access business folders, documents and files. An online business that enables you to travel and keep earning money wherever you are is a workable reality. And of course, it also works for standard SME businesses. It allows flexible working, ease of communication and creative solutions when it comes to working with others who you don’t see on an everyday basis.

Collaborative working, sharing ideas and creative solutions are the cornerstones of what a good business model should look like. The growth of cloud computing and Exchange hosting are allowing this to happen in these exciting times, made even more fantastic that these models can be utilized by anyone – even jokers and clowns.
